English translation

In spring the housing association organises a dugnad, a shared volunteer work day. Residents meet to tidy outdoor areas, paint fences and plant flowers. Nora had never taken part before and was unsure what to do. A neighbour gave her gloves and showed her where to plant the flowers. As they worked, they got to know each other better. Afterwards the board served coffee and waffles. Nora realised that a dugnad is not only about making the area nicer. It also gives people a chance to meet their neighbours and take responsibility for a shared environment. She would like to join in again next time.
